TUKWILA, Wash. - Guest forward Sammy Ochoa came off the bench to score the game's only goal in the 82nd minute as Seattle Sounders FC kept its perfect MLS Reserve League record intact with a 1-0 win over the L.A. Galaxy on Monday at Starfire Sports Stadium in Tukwila, Wash.
Terry Boss made six saves to earn his fourth shutout of the Reserve League season and his third in a row.
Sounders FC (6-0-0) remains atop the West Division while the Galaxy slipped to 0-4-0 in Reserve League play.
Ochoa, a trialist, came on in the 62nd minute and delivered the game-winner a half-hour later. Erik Friberg slotted the ball in front of the goal and Ochoa hit it first time from 6 yards. Galaxy goalkeeper Brian Perk initially blocked the shot but the rebound was bundled over the line by Ochoa.
Ochoa became the 10th player to score for Seattle in its six Reserve League matches. He nearly doubled the lead in the 86th minute, but his header Friberg's cross was saved by Perk.
The Galaxy finished with a slim 20-19 edge in shots and 4-2 on corner kicks. Perk made seven saves, the most difficult coming with his foot in the 71st minute on a 16-yard drive by Miguel Montano.
Boss was kept busy in the second half, when he made four of his stops. Twice in three minutes he dived to tip over the bar long drives by Mike Magee. In the 79th minute, Magee laced a low ball through the crease and defender Dan Keat steered his shot just wide of the right post.
Seattle visits the Galaxy for its next Reserve League match on July 5 at 11 a.m. L.A. hosts Vancouver on June 20 at 11 a.m.
