There are days like today where the weather is just depressing, when I look out my work window and it?s pouring. I then ask myself if I should go to the gym or not? My couch and sweats sound unbelievably awesome right about now. I?m tired and sometimes I don?t feel like making the time for working out. Somehow I dig deep within and I remember why I became a trainer, why motivation is what gets me to the gym and why habit keeps me going. The way I feel when I?m working hard is really an amazing feeling. I feel happy, energized, empowered and most importantly I feel healthy. There are those times when I hate it, the grueling moments where you are counting every rep asking if it will EVER END!
I?m pretty sure I was doing this in last week?s KB class with Doug. He told me to do 200 KB swings. I know I know NO BIG DEAL. I?m crazy for thinking that was a lot right?!! Well, we are all human and even the best trainers can sometimes feel lazy. Granted that happens less frequently than the average person but it does happen. What I?m trying to say is trainer or not we all feel the same things at times. We all want to be couch potatoes and go into our lazy modes BUT how can we prevent this or more importantly battle through it? It?s the battling through these moments that really defines us as humans, parents, friends, significant others, athletes, gym goers, students, workers etc.
This is where the power of the mind can work for us, choosing to think positively and changing our very own perspectives. Today I woke up and packed my gym bag, I planned on heading to Yoga tonight at 7pm. Throughout the day it has rained and poured and since I?m feeling sore from Saturday?s workout I convinced myself that maybe I should go home after work and just chill out and watch TV. As I sit here and type this blog to you I?ve changed my mind. I AM going to go to yoga because although I don?t feel like it now I know how GREAT I will feel after I go. I know that Yoga will help my mind settle, will help with my muscle soreness that I?m currently experiencing and it will provide me with energy to have a nice evening. Not only will going to the gym make you healthier physically but it helps stabilize you emotionally, mentally, and even socially. The comradery that you experience with other gym goers or peers that are taking the same class as you is an awesome feeling in itself. You push yourself and others harder. It?s supportive and competitive at the same time, it?s uplifting and empowering, and most importantly it keeps you going when you thought you couldn?t that day.
On the days you feel the laziest are the days you SHOULD push yourself harder- GET TO THE GYM. It?s fighting through the bad and coming out on top. It?s pushing through those reps, pushing yourself to be an even better version of you.? Remember the positives of getting to the gym: you feel better in every way, it?s a bigger part of a lifelong goal to sustain happiness and healthiness, it?s maintaining a sense of consistency to avoid getting into bad habits and most importantly it keeps you on track to reach all your goals!
