Egypt pulls TV ads warning foreigners may be spies

CAIRO (AP) ? An Egyptian media official says authorities have pulled TV advertisements that warned against talking to foreigners who may be spies after criticism that they fueled xenophobia.

The official said Sunday that the ads were aired on state TV and private networks for a few days before Minister of Information Ahmed Anis ordered them off the air and asked "media experts" to examine the content to decide whether to ban them. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

Another consideration when buying remote property in Alaska is which type of financing you are eligible for. Mortgage lenders often shy away from offering full financing for undeveloped land or unfinished cabins as there is no collateral and greater risk to the lender. Rose Parade hits patriotic notes

The official calendar might not agree, but summer has arrived in Roselle.

Residents spent the weekend welcoming the season during the Roselle Lions Club Rose Fest, which is considered the community?s summer kickoff event. The event concluded Sunday with the 53rd annual Rose Parade.

The parade, a joint effort by the village and the Roselle Chamber of Commerce and Industry, marched down Roselle Road under sunny skies Sunday. The event had a patriotic theme this year. Members of local American Legion Post 1084 led things off, eliciting enthusiastic applause from the crowd. The chamber?s float was a red, white and blue tribute to those who?ve served our country in the armed forces.

The parade contained other elements, as well ? the traditional fleet of police and fire vehicles; a visit from the village?s founder, Rosell Hough (who spells his name without an ?e? on the end); the haunting sounds of the bagpipers from the Chicago Highlanders; and, of course, an appearance by 2012 Rose Queen Katie Ruby and her court.

The grand marshal of Sunday?s parade was Kristen Langner, the chamber?s 2011 Business Person of the Year. Langner, an optometrist, owns Langner Eye Care in town.

Families started setting up camp along Roselle Road well before the parade?s 2 p.m. start time, all so children would have excellent position to scoop up the many handfuls of candy thrown their way.

?The kids love it,? said resident Kevin Nowicki, who brought his two daughters, ages 6 and 8, to the parade. ?They like the floats and everything, but I think the candy is the main attraction.?

Maureen Anderson said she likes the small-town feeling that the Rose Parade creates.

?It?s kind of a throwback, in a lot of ways,? she said. ?We?re all busy with our very modern lives, but then we set aside time to have a community parade together. I like that.?

Rose Fest got under way Thursday, and it featured a carnival, live music, food vendors and games.

As always, the Lions Club plans to put the proceeds from the event toward the group?s charitable work.

Chosen because: Just a few weeks after Tom LaSorda took over as CEO of Fisker in February, the maker of plug-in hybrids hit a rough patch when a Karma driven by Consumer Reports stopped working. LaSorda, 57, issued an open letter reassuring customers he was taking care of the problem.

Taking care of problems is a LaSorda specialty. As co-president of Chrysler in 2009, he helped arrange for Fiat to buy the troubled automaker. LaSorda also helped find private funding for Fisker after the U.S. Department of Energy blocked funds from a government loan because of missed production milestones. LaSorda's manufacturing background could come in handy if Fisker needs to look for a plant -- some of the the DOE loan money was going to be used to refurbish a former General Motors plant in Delaware.

Martin Solveig's Movie Awards Set 'Full Of Surprises'

French DJ puts his own spin on classic movie music tonight at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

UNIVERSAL CITY, California — DJ Martin Solveig is bringing the party to the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Solveig will serve as the house DJ for the awards show, putting his own spin on the big event.

MTV News caught up with Solveig after his rehearsals at the home to the Movie Awards, the Gibson Amphitheatre, and he told us DJing this event is much different than any other performance he has ever done.

"It's very fun, very different," Solveig said. "I like new things, and this is a new thing."

And Solveig is definitely bringing a new thing to the awards show: The French DJ has decided to remix theme songs from some of the most iconic films of all time. "The idea basically of doing something a little bit extra specific for the Movie Awards and for the movie atmosphere of the ceremony, so I've remixed some movie scores," Solveig said. "Done some sort of remixes that will be good for everyone, for the party, for the show."

Some of those iconic theme songs include "Jaws," "Star Wars" and "Superman," movie scores Solveig thought would be easily recognizable to the audience.

"We had to choose things that we were sure that within five seconds you would immediately know what movie it's related to, because it's TV; it has to be fast," Solveig said. "So we went for very obvious movie scores, but then it's also a little bit of fun and we were lucky that the studios let us do that, because it's touching the grail, like big pieces of music, so we were really lucky they accepted that I mess a little bit with that music."

In addition to being a producer and DJ, Solveig has become well-known for his fun and quirky music videos, so will he bring any of that to the big show?

"We've worked on the all-new set of visuals just for the show," Solveig admitted. "It's full of surprises; you have to see the show."
